Language Learning, Perfectionism, Self Sabotage and Low Confidence

Episode Summary

Those who have grown up around a language but don't speak it are often at a disadvantage when it comes to becoming conversationally proficient later in life. We are bound by the ideal of perfect speech and can often understand the language so well that it leads to self-sabotage in acquiring proficiency due to a need for perfectionism and the lack of confidence to look stupid. Embracing being a speaker of broken languages is a superpower worth acquiring in my opinion. Listen more to hear I'm butchering languages as I encounter them and still managing to coming out ahead.
